4 Ways To Help Manage Toddler Behaviour

Parenting a wilful toddler can be filled with joys and challenges (often just moments apart). Toddlers need to interact with other children to help learn important social skills. Such as co-operative play, sharing and taking turns. As well as other developmental areas like problem solving and communication. We currently have limited spaces available at Melbourne Juniors Early Learning. Where your child will have the opportunity to develop these skills, foster meaningful relationships and engage in experiences that will benefit them both now and in the future.

Here's some helpful tips from the wonderful educators at Melbourne Juniors Early Learning Centre to help Mums and Dads guide their toddler's behaviour.

Distraction/Diversion

To avoid a melt down or conflict, try diverting your toddler's attention to another interesting activity they will enjoy. For example, if it's time to go home from the playground try focusing on the fun things you will do together when you get home like reading a favourite book or eating a yummy snack.

Communication

Encourage toddlers to express themselves in words rather than actions. Be sure to focus on and reinforce positive behaviours/efforts. It's also a good idea to get down to their level and speak to them the way you would like to be spoken to (please/thank you). Being calm and consistent in your approach can help you role model how you want them to behave.

Set Expectations/Routine

Something that works particularly well in a child care environment is that your child will have an individualised routine. Once settled they will know what to expect at meal times, sleep time and play time. At Melbourne Juniors Early Learning we have a delicious, nutritious menu to make sure your toddler has the right fuel to keep them going throughout the day.

Embrace The Mess

Most toddlers love to get messy. This sensory play helps them develop fine and gross motor skills, co-ordination and concentration. It's also a great way for them to develop their imagination and explore their environments. Your child will have plenty of opportunities for messy play and creative activities at Melbourne Juniors!
